Severe weather can be a scary thing. Thankfully, we have the technology to track these systems and give us advance warning of when they’re headed our way. Here’s a look at some of the different types of severe weather, how they form, and how we keep track of them.

Thunderstorms are the most common type of severe weather. They usually form in the late afternoon or early evening when the air is warm and humid. These storms can produce heavy rain, strong winds, hail, and sometimes even tornadoes.

Radars are our best tool for tracking thunderstorms. They help us see where the storm is headed and how strong it is. We also use radiosondes to measure things like wind speed and temperature in the atmosphere. This helps us understand what conditions are necessary for severe weather to form. My weather page has information on severe weather forecasts in Queensland Australia and also informative and educational posts on different weather subjects.
