Severe Thunderstorm Warning – Southeast Queensland, Brisbane & Sunshine Coast

for DAMAGING WINDS, LARGE HAILSTONES, and HEAVY RAINFALL

For people in parts of Somerset, Scenic Rim, Northern Downs, and Sunshine Coast Council Areas.

Issued at 1:00 pm Monday, 7th December 2020.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 1:00 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Woodford. These thunderstorms are moving towards the southeast. They are forecast to affect Wamuran by 1:30 pm and Caboolture by 2:00 pm.

Damaging winds, large hailstones, and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding are likely

Severe thunderstorms are developing from the northwest over the ranges and further east along the coast. These thunderstorms contain heavy rain and frequent to dangerous lightning that may lead to flash flooding in the warning areas.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it’s flooded, forget it.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.
